Welcome to the website of the New Albany Indiana Township Trustee
What is a Township Trustee
The New Albany Township Trustee is an elected official in the City of New Albany government. A township trustee administers a township, which is a political subdivision of a county, and in common with most other state officials serves a term of four years.
Duties of the Trustee
Legislation has been in effect in Indiana since 1894 that requires that Indiana's 1,000+ towns, local governments and townships provide "poor relief" to citizens. This relief can include many things, such as rent help, housing, food, utility bill assistance, and medical assistance. Because of its “grassroots” structure, the Township Trustee system is designed specifically to quickly meet the needs of the individual in an emergency.
